Meet the team

We are proud to bring our expertise and knowledge to support the almshouse community of York. Protecting and developing this historic element of our city is a true honour.

Letters almshouse management

Helping people to live independently

York is recorded as establishing England’s earliest recorded almshouse in 936, and today they continue to provide much-needed housing to elderly and/ or vulnerable adults.

Letters is passionate about the role of almhouses in modern society, and works with charities to provide a secure and comfortable home to people who meet their criteria.

We help charity trustees manage the day to day operation of almshouses on a bespoke basis. Our services include safety compliance, property maintenance, providing a point of contact for residents, corporate governance, accounts and book keeping, and administrative support.

We’re a close-knit team who discuss each property and deal with any issues immediately. That makes my job very rewarding.

Almshouse Administration and Finance

Emma Davis

Emma’s varied role ensures the smooth running of the almshouses we manage, giving owners, residents and their families peace of mind that all is in order. She enjoys making pastoral visits to residents, and also checks fire regulation compliance, liaises with families about residents’ care, arranges regular trustees’ meetings and processes applications.

It’s satisfying when I’m able to liaise with trustees and contractors to resolve any problems in a quick time-scale.

Almshouse Property Management

Mike Cole

Mike works with trustees and contractors to see that almshouse facilities are maintained to the highest standards, addressing specific concerns as well as coordinating routine maintenance and larger projects. He ensures that the almshouses we manage are clean and in good repair and comply with safety regulations. As our fire safety expert, he works closely with our appointed Fire Risk Assessor.

With Letters you get professional care with the personal touch… we’re not a corporate machine.
