Managing Director

Anya Mathewson LLB (Hons)

Anya firmly believes that Letters’ independence, caring ethos and the high standards it demands of both tenants and landlords has made it the successful company it is today. She’s supported by long-serving, dedicated staff who share her commitment to making Letters the go-to company for letting and property management in York. Anya is a law graduate who worked in Finance and IT for international oil companies before joining Letters as Finance Manager in 2002. She took over the company in 2006 and has since built it up with the help of valued colleagues and contractors who share her professionalism, approachability – and willingness to go the extra mile.



We have a strong duty of care to both tenants and landlords, and our strict but fair criteria means rent arrears are minimal.

Lettings Management

Paula Thompson

Paula’s keen eye for detail has helped our lettings department run smoothly since 2002. She ensures we maintain our high criteria for both landlords and tenants by overseeing all referencing as well as application reviews, tenancy agreements and notices – all of which is done in-house. She provides professional advice to landlords about our services and how best to remarket properties and liaises with Tracy on rent reviews.


As a local company we know all our properties, landlords and tenants. Everything is done in-house and clients get continuity, rather than an anonymous voice.

Property Management

Tracy Winteringham

Tracy’s worked in lettings since 1994, and at Letters since 2002, so she knows the industry inside out. She handles all aspects of property rentals, from carrying out visits and preparing marketing material, to creating inventories and handling check-outs. She also manages major refurbishments on landlords’ behalf, coordinates maintenance and handles rent reviews.


I love being out and about visiting properties and meeting tenants in their homes.

Debbie Baxter

Debbie works with Tracy to look after our managed properties, acting on behalf of both landlord and tenant to make sure they are marketed and maintained to the highest standards. She instructs trusted local contractors about repairs and refurbishments, carries out regular property visits and end of tenancy inspections, as well as compiling detailed inventories.


I love working as part of a friendly team – and we all care passionately about providing an excellent service.

Lettings Management

Dee Fisher

Dee facilitates a smooth letting experience for tenants and landlords by using her broad knowledge and attention to detail to guide them through the paperwork. She obtains applications and references, produces tenancy agreements and notices, and ensures all new tenancies comply with current legislation. Dee is based in our busy front office, so enjoys multitasking!



Aside from working with such great team, I like the fact my job is so dynamic and varied – each week you speak to different people and visit different properties.

Property and Lettings Management

Naomi Quarton

Naomi ensures new and returning properties are well-marketed and conducts viewings with prospective tenants. She assists with setting up new tenancies, makes regular property visits and remains a point of contact for any property maintenance issues, ensuring they acted upon promptly and effectively. Naomi enjoys the fact that working in a relatively small team means she can build good relationships with both landlords and tenants.



I enjoy bringing my varied experience from outside the property management sector into this role.

Communications Director

Graeme Dixon

Graeme works with landlords and potential landlords to help ensure continued growth for our business, and that our customer service remains of the highest standard. He oversees social media, reviews market intelligence, and thrives on showing how Letters’ local sense of community and in-depth knowledge works to the advantage of property investors in York.


I love the variety of the job. No two days are the same.

Business Services

Allyson Bolland

Allyson keeps our office running smoothly, taking care of Health and Safety, Human Resources, finance and compliance so everyone else can focus on providing great service to our clients. She’s an expert at smoothing wrinkles – whether it’s on a carpet or forehead – and with an inbox that changes every day, she’d make a pretty good juggler, too!

Top Dog


Woody has been with Letters since birth as his proud owners are Anya and Graeme. He can be relied upon to sniff out treats hidden away in the office and is an expert at cleaning up any crumbs left after lunch. He enjoys checking out dogs who visit with landlords and tenants and is a keen attender of meetings with almshouse trustees. He considers himself the most loved member of staff – and is probably right!
